Guided walks in the medina
The local tourism portal lists guided visits of the medina, so the type exists, but there is no standard guide price or guaranteed daily start. A walk may cover the gates, the Skala ramparts and the harbor, depending on the operator. Ask whether the Skala du Port ticket (60 MAD for foreign adults in 2026) is included, because that is a separate fee.
Cooking classes
One local provider runs workshops with a cook named Khadija, followed by a shared meal. Its calendar shows tajine at €49, couscous at €59, rfissa at €65 and pastilla at €70, for example from 11:30 to 15:00, on dates in October 2026. These are examples and not a promise of availability. The provider offers reservation by date. Other providers set their own prices.
Day trips from Marrakech
The local portal gives about 3 hours by road from Marrakech airport to Essaouira. A return on the same day therefore means about 6 hours of transfer before you see anything, plus traffic and stops. Sidi Kaouki
Sidi Kaouki is a coastal and water sports spot about 20 km south of Essaouira on the N1 toward Agadir, according to the local portal. One other travel site gives about 25 km. Check where the tour starts and ends before you compare it with a taxi.
Argan cooperatives and goats
The tourism portal describes women's cooperatives that show how edible oil, cosmetic oil, amlou and soap are made. Not every tour includes such a stop, so ask. On the road between Marrakech and Essaouira you may see goats standing in argan trees. A 2022 report documented goats placed on platforms in the trees and criticism from animal welfare advocates. That is a background fact, not a statement about every tree today. Do not count on seeing goats, and think about whether you want to pay for a staged photo.
Rides in Diabat
A ranch in Diabat offers guided rides, including a one-hour dromedary ride at €23 per person. Slots run from 10:00 to 13:00 or 13:00 to 17:00, and some dates show as sold out. Children aged 0 to 4 are free when sharing with a parent, at most one child per adult. Children aged 5 to 8 pay half when sharing and the full price alone, and from age 9 the full price applies. At most two people share a dromedary. Animal welfare standards differ, so check the animals' condition, water and shade.
The island of Mogador
The islands off Essaouira are described by the local portal as a bird reserve, and landing is forbidden. A boat trip around the island is mentioned as a possibility, which is a different thing from a visit. Do not book a tour that promises a walk on the island, and ask any operator about the exact route and what you will see from the boat.

Ask what the price covers: entry tickets, food and drink, tips, hotel pickup and the return. Ask for the meeting point and the language of the guide. Check the cancellation terms and keep the confirmation. Most of these details are set by the operator, not by this guide.

Is a day trip from Marrakech realistic?
It is possible, but the transfer alone is about 6 hours for the return trip. If you can, stay one night in Essaouira. If not, ask the operator about the time you get in town.
